Job Description

Utah Testing and Engineering, a subsidiary of Sunrise Engineering, is currently initiating a search for a Construction Observer to support our growing organization. This position will be based in the West Valley area.

Your Impact

The Construction Observer provides strategic and operational support to service center managers throughout the organization.

  •  Perform field inspection and document review functions on construction projects, with emphasis on UDOT roadway projects
  • Perform Materials Testing field and Laboratory technician responsibilities (SRDTT, CTT, Asphalt, Laboratory etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Perform general administrative/clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, attending meetings, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents for file management, verbal and written communications with customers; customer service and related functions

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Successful candidates will have some construction experience, preferred candidates will have active UDOT certifications (IQP, Traffic Signal, Crash Cushion, Env. Control, Partnering, Traffic Control, HazMat, SRDTT, CTT, CSTT, Embankment, Asphalt, Aggregate and Laboratory certifications and CEMT) or the ability to obtain certifications as soon as possible.

  • Must be responsible and have demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
  • Approachable and good interacting with diverse groups of people
  • Analytical, problem solver, and strong attention to detail.
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work with a team and independently with minimal supervision

Minimum Requirements:

  • Able to read and interpret Construction plans.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite, specifically:
    • Excel – able to add/delete rows and columns, sort and filter, search for data within a workbook and other basic formatting.
    • Word must be able to format documents and letters, and track changes made to documents; must be able to upload documents into a shared online database, such as Dropbox or equivalent.
    • Outlook create/maintain outlook calendar; effectively sort and organize outlook emails
  • Valid Drivers License
  • ICC Certification

  • Perform ACI Level 1 testing as needed
  • Perform compaction testing as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Candidates can continue to increase in work load and with the capability and desire to become certified for ICC Prestressed Concrete Special Inspector, Spray Applied Fire Proofing, Structural Steel/Bolting.”
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and the ability to maintain company vehicle.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
